MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : SAINTS were handed a harsh lesson at Langtree Park as they were beaten 26-4 by a clinical Warrington.

The Wolves opened the scoring when Chris Sandow slipped a nice pass to Ben Currie in the seventh minute. Back to back penalties got Saints in great field position as they attempted to reply – and then they won a repeat set thanks to Jon Wilkin’s kick to the corner that Jack Owens forced out of the hands of Gene Ormsby. But the home side couldn’t take advantage of strong runs from Kyle Amor and Jonny Lomax. Saints came again but couldn’t control the ball and in the 18th minute Sandow punished them once more. This time he stepped the would be tackling to increase the lead. Saints rallied to win a drop out on 24 minutes before Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook had one chalked off by the video referee. But on just their third attack of the evening, the Wolves scored once again. This time a simple chip over the top was collected and put down by Ryan Atkins.

Down 16-0 Saints needed a strong start to the second half – but that idea was undone within three minutes as Stefan Ratchford went through the middle. Rhys Evans then took advantage of a kind bounce on the last to increase the lead further. And it got worse for the home side as Jordan Turner was carried off in the 54th minute as they aimed to get back into the game. Saints couldn’t string anything together after that, whilst Warrington closed the door on every attack. But they did get on the board when Lomax took short pass to go over. It was scant consolation for Saints though who continue their inconsistent form in Super League.
