MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Hull KR took the lead within two minutes. Saints made an error from the kick off, the hosts used up the full set on our line before Mikey Lewis’ high kick on the last tackle was claimed by Joe Burgess who reached out to score. Lewis couldn’t convert from the left touchline, 0-4 the hosts led early on. Minutes later another chance came for the Robins. On the last tackle they kicked low down their right edge, with Tom Davies and Tristan Sailor contesting for the loose ball and Saints were forced to concede a dropout.
>
From the repeat set, the hosts had their second try. The ball was moved from right to left, Oliver Gildart found Burgess who finished acrobatically in the corner. After looking back at it, the video referee ruled it out for simultaneous grounding, as his hand touched the outside of the field as he grounded it under pressure from Owen Dagnall. Two minutes later, they did have a second try. Gildart put in a right footed kick towards the posts which Lewis claimed and escaped some tackles before reaching out to score. He converted his own try, 10-0. Midway through the first half, the hosts were awarded a penalty after David Klemmer hit Elliot Minchella late. Hull KR opted for two points which Lewis slotted over, 12-0.
>
Four minutes later, Hull KR had a third try. Tyrone May broke down their right edge, he found Jez Litten in support on his inside and he went over to score unopposed. Lewis added the conversion, 18-0. Almost immediately from the kick off in their next set, they had another try. Lewis set Burgess away down the left edge, he threw a dummy to get past Sailor and score in the corner. Lewis converted, 24-0. Hull KR had a fifth try 33 minutes in. Jai Whitbread and Lewis threw a one-two down their left edge and the latter went over for his second try of the night. Lewis turned his four points into six with the conversion, 30-0.
>
Saints first attack came on the back of a Hull KR forward pass, which gave the visitors possession in the Robins 20. On the last, the Red V went down the left edge but Jackson Hastings was wrapped up short of the line and it was a turnover. Minutes later, the siren sounded to signal the end of the first half. 30-0 Saints trailed at the break.
>
Saints grabbed their first points of the contest within two minutes of the second half getting underway. Noah Stephens floored Lewis with a fend and threw a pass to Dagnall on the wing, he cut inside and stretched out to score. Hastings missed the conversion, 30-4.

The Robins hit back five minutes later. Saints conceded a penalty for a ball steal. Later on in that set Gildart found Burgess who rounded the Saints defence to complete his hat-trick in the corner. Lewis converted, 36-4.

Hull KR had their seventh try less than five minutes later. Lewis took the line on and Saints couldn’t stop him as he went over in the corner under pressure to complete his hat-trick. His conversion landed short, 40-4. Three minutes later, another Hull KR try. Saints knocked on inside our own half, Lewis collected it and offloaded to James Batchelor who strolled over. Lewis converted from in front of the sticks, 46-4. Just after the hour mark, Hull KR had a ninth try. Gildart found Burgess again who raced down the wing, he found Whitbread on his inside who scored from close range. Lewis added the conversion, 52-4.

Saints grabbed a consolation with nine minutes to go. The visitors got a penalty inside the Hull KR ten and Hastings found Shane Wright who broke through a gap to score. Hastings converted, 52-10.

It was an evening to forget for the Red V at Sewell Group Craven Park, a 52-10 defeat to the Robins.
