MATCH REPORT : Saints defeated Bradford Bulls 26-22 at the BrewDog Stadium, in the first meeting between the two sides since 2014 First Half Saints took an early lead. The hosts applied constant pressure to the Bulls line, Jackson Hastings found Shane Wright who crashed over from close range to open the scoring. Hastings was unable to convert, 4-0 we led. The Bulls responded eight minutes later. A penalty pushed the visitors into Saints territory. Rowan Milnes spotted space behind the Red V defence and Ethan Ryan grounded the loose ball to score in the corner. Milnes couldn’t convert, 4-4 we were tied. Saints were then reduced to twelve for ten minutes as David Klemmer was sin binned for a high shot. The Bulls opted for an easy two points which Milnes knocked over to give them the lead, 4-6. The visitors took more advantage of their extra man. Another set in Saints territory ended with Connor Wynne collecting a cut-out pass and diving over in the corner to score. Milnes again couldn’t convert, 4-10 we trailed. Second Half Five minutes into the second half, the Bulls had a third try. The visitors broke down their right edge and worked the ball well with it eventually finding Wynne who crossed for his second try. Luke Hooley converted, 4-16. Saints responded quickly. Curtis Sironen collected the ball close to the Bradford line before reaching out to score under pressure. Hastings added the conversion, 10-16. Four minutes later, Saints had another four-pointer. From a scrum inside the Bradford 20 following an error, Saints opted to move the ball left and Tristan Sailor took the line on, breaking through a gap to score in the corner. Hastings levelled the game with the conversion, 16-16. Minutes later, the Bulls were reduced to twelve men. Former Saint, Eliot Peposhi caught George Delaney high in the middle of the field and saw red. The Saints prop didn’t return to the game, having been forced off with a HIA. Saints took immediate advantage of the extra man. The Red V worked it from left to right, Sailor finding Kyle Feldt who rounded the Bulls defence to score in the corner. Hastings missed the conversion, 20-16. Saints were then once again reduced to twelve men just after the hour-mark. Joe Shorrocks went low on Ed Chamberlain trying to make a tackle and saw yellow. In their next set, Bradford levelled it. Andy Ackers saw an opportunity from dummy half close to the line and spun his way over to score. Hooley added the conversion to put the Bulls ahead, 20-22. With just over four minutes to go, Saints re-claimed the lead. The hosts moved the ball through the hands from right to left and Deon Cross cut inside and buried his way over in the corner. Hastings added the conversion, 26-22. With less than 90 seconds to go, Joe Mellor collected a chipped kick inside his own half and tried another kick ahead to Ethan Ryan, but Sailor won the race to the loose ball and the hosts saw the remainder of the clock out. 26-22 Saints winning against the Bulls at the BrewDog Stadium.
