MATCH REPORT : Saints moved to the top of the Betfred Super League table following a 14-24 victory over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. First Half Hull FC took the lead early on. Saints did well initially to stop Davy Litten short of the line after he had collected a high kick but the following tackles the hosts went left and Zak Hardaker found Logan Moy who scored from close range. Hardaker added the conversion, 6-0 Saints trailed. A penalty from the restart pushed the Black and Whites into Saints territory again but a good tackle from Harry Robertson forced Moy to knock on. Midway through the first half, we had our first points of the contest. Lewis Martin fumbled a high Jackson Hastings kick inside his own ten to gift the Red V good field position. A few tackles into the set, Hastings found Jake Davies who stepped inside onto his right foot, broke through a tackle and dove over the line. Tristan Sailor converted, 6-6 it was tied. The hosts regained their lead eight minutes later. Saints fumbled a high kick on our own line giving the hosts a repeat set. A few tackles in, Amir Bourouh spotted a gap from close range and span his way over to score. Hardaker added another conversion, 12-6. Saints tried to level the game once again. The visitors were held up just short of the line on a few occasions in a set before Daryl Clark put in a low kick on the last tackle towards Feldt which forced the hosts to concede a goal-line dropout. The Black and Whites held firm in the repeat set. On the last, Saints moved it from right to left through the hands but George Whitby was tackled as he looked to have beaten a defender. Minutes later, the half-time hooter sounded. Saints trailed 12-6 at the break in East Yorkshire. Second Half The visitors tried to get back into the contest early on in the second half. Hastings kicked high crossfield towards the Saints left edge, Owen Dagnall claimed it but was tackled as he landed inside the Hull ten. Minutes later, Saints did have a second try. Hastings, deep in Hull territory, went left to Noah Stephens and he carried two Hull players over the line with him as he reached out to score. Sailor added the conversion, 12-12 we were tied. Three minutes later, we had a trip to the video referee. Hastings grounded the ball under the sticks after cutting back inside onto his right foot, but an obstruction from Alex Walmsley in the build-up gave the hosts a penalty the other way instead. Twelve minutes into the second half, Saints had a penalty as former Saint James Bell caught Davies high. The visitors opted for two points with the kick 30 metres out in front of the sticks which Sailor slotted through to give us a 12-14 lead. Three minutes later, Hull FC had the chance to level. Matt Whitley caught Moy high which gave them a penalty, twenty metres out to the right of the sticks. They opted for two which Hardaker converted to level it at 14-14. Just after the hour-mark, Saints reclaimed the lead. On the last tackle, the visitors went right from under the sticks. Sailor put in a low kick towards the corner which bounced perfectly into Feldt’s hands and he planted the ball down. Sailor’s conversion from the right touchline bounced in off the post, 14-20 Saints led. With ten minutes to go, Sailor broke through a gap down the middle of the field and backed himself to round Moy, The Hull fullback caught him and forced the Saints man to offload and the ball landed in touch. Minutes later, Saints did have a fourth try. Hull FC made an error inside their own half, Robertson got the loose ball and backed himself down the right edge, working his way over to score in the corner. Sailor missed the conversion, 14-24. That was the final action of the contest, as Saints left the MKM Stadium with two points following a 14-24 victory over Hull FC.
